Brinks Alarm DIY Help, BHS-4000A control panel
Great website here guys. I've done some searching, and can't find exactly what I'm looking for.
I DO own my hardware. The contract ends in just a few days. What I want to do is just use the system, without it calling out.
I unplugged the phone line (looks more like a ethernet cable though). The panel has a couple of numbers written on it, so I think that has what I need.
How do I change the programming? I havn't seen any instructions.
View related: Brinks Home Security Made Local?2011-12-28 23:39:24Wondering if a Brinks Home Security (BHS 4000A) can be made into a local system? It is currently being monitored and the monitoring will be turned off in a few weeks. The monitoring is hooked up through the phone line....
Brinks BHS 3000 system2012-11-08 20:26:02My (Brinks BHS 3000 system) panel every night at 8 O'clock start beeps and I have to enter the code to stop it how can I fix this problem
Brinks BHS 3000 system gone dead?2011-10-26 10:58:48Hi,
I'm a newbie to this arena, and was wondering if someone could please assist.
My Brinks (now Broadview, and soon to be the new ADT) system, the BHS 3000, suddenly just died yesterday. Before I left, I turned the system on, and when I got back, the panel was completely shut off. I have battery backup and everything, but it is as if the power to the unit was severed or something. Could it be a fuse? If so, what type, and is it located in the master panel box?
The system has not been monitored for over 2 years now, and it has been working fine as a stand-alone system until now, so calling Brinks to come and 'fix' the problem is not a feasible option for me at this point.
Zone Not Recognized - Brink BHS-4000A2012-09-07 23:46:18Hello
I have a monitored Brinks BHS-4000A home alarm system. In addition to setting the alarm, I also use the door chime feature to alert me whenever a door or window is opened in the house.
The alarm and door chime feature had been working for all zones for over two years. Recently, one zone (which consists of two large sliding glass doors) stopped working. When the alarm is armed and the door in the 'dead' zone is opened, nothing happens. Additionally, when door chime in enabled and the doors in this zone are opened there is no chime.
I called the company to inquire about service and was told it was about $125 for them to just come out and then about $35 per half-hour after that.
Given the possible cost to correct the problem, I was interested in trouble shooting the issue myself in hopes for finding a solution. Any suggestions would be great.
In case this helps, I live in SW Florida and recently during a bad storm I believe our home or a tree close to the home was struck by lightning. After the storm a number of interior outlets had to be mannually reset, the water-sensor in the A/C broke and had to be replaced. I am wondering if the storm also zapped the sensors in this zone.
Brinks BHS-3000C2011-10-25 11:57:56My home came with the BHS-3000C hardwired. We have been using the system without monitoring since we had the house built in 2004. The backup battery was low, so I changed the battery to the exact battery that was low. When I did this I turned off the breaker to the room / closet with the control panel in it. I then replaced the battery, making sure to connect the positive and negative wires correctly. When i turned the breaker back to on the keypad had no display, but keys will beep. I tried powering it off and on, tried a new transformer, but still no display on keypad. Is it possible the system reset itself, and will needed to be programed by Brinks as when we originally moved in? Or did I fry the board? Is there any way to resolve this without using Brinks? If not what do I need to install a new system I can work on? We have two big dogs, and don't want it monitored. But I would like to know if my doors or windows have been opened. Thanks....
Would like to add wireless transmitters to windows2013-01-19 06:23:40I need some help and glad I found this forum. I have a Brinks setup (BHS-3000C) that was already in my home when I purchased the house and had service with Brinks, then Broadview, and now ADT. I have two motion sensors that I would like to augment with some wireless transmitters on my windows. When I took a look at my panel I noticed that there was a BHS-3250 wireless receiver mounted under the panel. I don't have anything that is wireless and I assume they were for some fobs or something in the past. With what I have, will I be able to add some wireless window transmitters like the honeywell 5816? Thanks...
Using the Brinks Alarm w/o Monitoring2012-05-08 19:26:33I have read many of the posts on this forum because I find myself in the situation many other subscribers are in. I purchased a home with a Brinks Security System installed. I'd like to use the features without the monitoring enabled.
I have unplugged the phone line, but I do not have the documentation from the previous owner to enter, change, or disable the key code. I'd like to set up a code so that I might use this equipment. Can anyone tell me how to set a new code of my own?
The unit is:
The circuit board in the controll panel has the following:
BHS 2000 Series 1998 P/N 60821583 B Sentrol, Inc.
The Keypad is a DCU602B/C Type.
When power is applied to the system, it comes on in the armed mode. I need to 'CANCEL' the armed mode and create a new code. Any help is welcome.
brinks bhs 1200 system2011-10-25 14:15:39We just moved into a house with a brinks bhs 1200 system, 1 keypad and 1 monitor. We had several break-ins in the nieighborhood last night and I wanted to have the system 'alarm' without subscribing to monitoring. we do not have the original code and I've read several post and looked for a code possibly written on the wiring diagram, no luck , Is there any way to set the system up to beep when the door is opened?? thanks for any help!...
Brinks BHS 30002013-01-19 06:24:04I have a brink BHS-3000 system and on the battery cabinet it says it it is a BHS-3000B. Can anyone tell me if the control cabinet (referenced in the attached thread) is the box with the battery or the key pad? I can not open the keypad and I can not find any chip on the board in the battery cabinet that has a chip with a code like PC####? If it is the battey cabinet, where is the chip located on the board?
Also from the previous thread I see the instructions require the use of an '*' key to activate the programing codes....my keypad only has numbers and the cancel button on the line with the '0' there is no '#' or '*' on the last line with the '0'. How do I activate these codes?...
Brinks (ADT) Home Security (BHS 3000A Panel) switching from VoIP to POTS2011-10-25 02:55:52Hi All,
Thanks in advance for any help!
I currently have a Brinks (Broadview or ADT..whoever they are now) BHS 3000A security panel installed. Several years ago we switched our phone service to Vonage (VoIP) and we had to modify the connection so that Brinks and Vonage would work together.
From what I can see, there is a flat grey RJ-45 cable that comes from the BHS 3000A and it plugs into an RJ 45 connector box, on the other end of the RJ 45 connector box a wire comes out from there and heads thru the attic all the way over to the room where my Vonage router is (or use to be). on the end of that wire is BW-1 connector (this connector split, one wire goes to the Vonage router the other plugs into the home phone).
Anyway, now that I am not using Vonage, I have tried plugging that cable into the home phone jack, no workie.
I cut the BW-1 connector off and attached an RJ11 connection, no workie.
I did notice there is an RJ11 phone jack next to the Security panel but I cannot tell see how that would hook up into the current system.
I hope this is good info..any help is appreciated...
How do I replace a battery on a bhs-3000?2012-07-26 04:56:20The user manual says to call Brinks, but I only use the system local and don't want to pay to have Brinks come out. There is no schematic or parts listed in the user manual, so just want to know if it's okay to open the panel and look for the backup battery which needs replaced. Also wanted to know if there is anything special I need to do or a special sequence I might need to do steps in.
Would appreciate any help....
Brinks BHS-1200B and adding addtional smoker Dectectors2011-10-26 10:58:38Hello everyone,
I have a Brinks BHS-1200b/1202b alarm control panel. I am adding a new addition to my house and by code I need to add two smoke detectors to the new area. My alarm system already has 1 4-wire smoke detector wired. Can I just add two more detectors to the unit or do I need a relay to go along with the installation? Also, I looked at the panel were the detector is connected and I did not see the end of line resistor. On the back of the cover for the housing it states a EOL4700 ( I guess code for End of line 4.7k resistor) Is it possible that the tech put it on the smoke detector cause I don't see it or do the motherboards have them build into the circuitry?
Some other things that my panels says are:
load limitation using a 15 VA trans: max combined aux and fire power output is 250 ma at 9-14 vdc. with an 8 ohm load max. Speaker load. Max fire power is 100 ma.
Use UL listed 4-wire smoke detectors'>wire smoke detectors and end of line relay modules in the U.S.
Brinks BHS 3000A - NO AC2011-10-26 12:34:56I had a Brinks BHS-3000A installed with the new house almost 6 years ago. About 3-4 months ago the kepypad went completely blank and I have been unable to set the alarm since. I recently bought a new 12V battery and connected it, the keypad (and the alarm) started working about 45-60 mins later but it the screen read 'NO AC'. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it the next day, waited an hour and nothing, the keypad was dead. I tested the outlet where the alarm transformer is connected and there is power. I turned the circuit breakers off and back on, checked all the GFI outlets neraby, all to no avail. What could the problem be? Is there anything else I can check?...
Brinks LCD keypads have power, but don't work2011-10-25 16:55:09We have a Brinks security system (BHS-3000) that has never been monitored. We own the system out right. We are in the process of finishing our basement and noticed the display on both keypads (3000 Premium Keypads) no longer light up, but the buttons beep when keys are pressed, however the system won’t arm. We are holding off on drywall until we can get the system up and running again. I called several alarm companies, but of course they won’t come out and fix the system without signing up for a 3-year contract, at an outrageous price. We’d like to get the current system functioning again if possible, if not we thought we’d go ahead and change the system completely out and install the new one ourselves.
So here are my questions.
1. Is it even possible for us to fix the system? If not, then skip questions 2-3.
2. There is a blinking light on the zone expander. What does this means? Both the zone expander and panel are made by Honeywell.
3. Will the Brinks system work with a non-Brinks keypad if we wanted to check and see if it’s just the keypads?
4. Which GE Concord Hardwire/Wireless systems package do you suggest? We just need 2 LDC keypads, (Non fixed so we can program), panel and zone expander. We have 14 hardwire zones currently. We have all the other components, which I have heard will work with the Concord systems. We would like the ability to control the system via the phone.
Any advice is appreciated I need to make a decision quickly so we can start drywalling.
Replacing Brinks System2011-10-26 12:35:08First post so be gentle!
I've been reading the forums for the last week and a half doing research on replacing our Brinks security system. It came with the house and we have never used it until our neighbor was burglarized about a week ago.
As far as I can tell the keypad is a Brinks BHS-2000. I was able to find the code by brute force so I can at least alarm it and set off a siren if anyone tried to break in. However, I would like to switch to a system that I can have monitored.
I believe from my research that I should be able to re-use all of the wired door and window contacts that are hooked to the Brinks system. There are currently 4 doors and ~12 windows divided into 6 zones. I don't believe that EOLRs have been hooked up as there is a bag of resistors in the control panel. The location where the panel is currently located is in an interior closet with an outlet and phone jack. My home phone is with Time Warner digital phone (VOIP).
I'm looking at replacing this with an Ademco Vista-20p (or maybe 21ip) with a 6160 keypad and a 6150rf keypad for wireless expansion. My understanding is that the Vista 20p will probably mount in the existing box, and I can then wire it up very similarly to how it is currently wired with the Brinks system. Also, I believe I'll need to replace the siren as apparently Brinks' only supplies a speaker and not a true siren.
Since I have VOIP, I'm considering either Internet or GSM monitoring as either a backup or the primary means of monitoring. I am concerned about mounting the GSM in the interior closet because of the potential lack of signal strength. Does anyone else have experience with an interior closet mount?
I've also been price shopping somewhat and it seems that eBay has the best prices, but I'm a little concerned about the service after the sale. Are there any other sellers that would be recommended?
Thanks for any advice you can offer!...
new system help - am I right in buying this?2011-10-26 10:58:46Hello,
I moved into a house with an existing Brinks BHS-3000a system. it came pre-wired with door and window sensors, siren, and keypad. I'm wanting to replace the control panel and keypad so that I can use the system myself. From what I've read, it looks like the Ademco Vista 20p would be a good choice for the control panel. As far as keypads go, I'm unsure. (I'm thinking 6160RF). I'd like to maintain the wired components of the system (though it seems as if I may need to replace the siren due to compatibility issues), but also have the ability to add wireless components. Do these items seem like the logical choice in order to accomplish this type of system? Is there something I am missing? (Is the RF keypad all that I need to add wireless capability?) Thank you so much for your help....
ADT BHS-400B Control Panel issue2011-10-26 04:54:52I recently purchased a home that has the BHS-400B Control Panel with the premium key pad. I want this alarm system to act as a stand alone system without monitoring. When I moved in the system worked fine, I guess until the new owners transferred their servoce on cancelled the contract. The 'On' buttom is no longer lit, and a message appears on the kep pad that states 'Not Ready... Call 1-800-........' I called ADT about this error, but the young lady that answered the phone said I didn't have an account (which I know), and wasn't sure how to correct the system without scheduling a service call. Can anyone help me figure this out?...

Looking for advice2011-10-25 19:16:40I have a Brinks system in our house now and from what I have read Brinks systems I cannot program myself.
So I am going to tell you what I have and what i want to do and if any experienced folks out there can help I would be very grateful.
My house is monitored by Brinks and I want to keep some type of monitoring. I also want alot more than Brinks has to offer as well as Brinks charges alot for items.
Here is what I have:
Brinks 3000c panel
2 Brinks key pad
Hardwired contacts on all doors but not on all windows
Here is what i want:
All doors AND windows (12 in all) protected. Windows are in bathrooms and bedrooms for the most part so I do not know how glass Breakage devices work.
I want to power on the lights during the duration of an Alarm or panic. Additionally after a disarm I want to leave the same lights on for a short period of time to enable me to power on other overhead lights if needed at night.
Ability of internet monitoring as I may disconnect the home phone. I may also want to add a wireless sensors
Cameras for out back, side and front. What really can I do, and how do they interact with the security (Alarm) system?
Thank you for any help....
Brinks BHS-2000 Zone trouble2011-10-25 19:16:59Howdy!
We have this alarm that came with our home. I have the code to arm it, but it will not arm until i bypass the 2 zones that show up on the keypad as 'Trouble'. One is a door sensor, the other is a glass sensor. I have verified that the hardware exists for these zones.
What are the steps to troubleshooting these zones?
