Beko fridge - auto defrost not working
We have a frost free combi
, Beko Fridge / Freezer (Model CDA 543 F). It is two and a half years old. Recently the auto defrost functioning
has stopped working, and the back wall of the fridge frosts up with thich ice. We have to hack the ice manually every two weeks or so, as it gets too thick for shelves. We have done what the manual instructs us (i.e. checked the drain tube, which seems to be clear; and reduced the setting to restart automatic defrosting
), with no success. The freezer is working fine.
Any ideas what we could try? Thank you in advance.
View related: Auto defrost on fridges2012-11-24 02:01:44Re my post today on Electrics UK (subject 'Weird RCD Trips'), can anyone please tell me how often the auto defrost is activated on a fridge? Can it be as long as about one month between one auto defrost and another?
Iced Diamond Auto Defrost Fridge Freezer, frosting up2011-11-05 20:35:29Iced Diamond Auto Defrost Fridge Freezer, frosting up, Red High Temp Light constantly on!!!
Hi. Can anyone help? My mum has an Iced Diamond Auto Defrost Fridge Freezer that she tells me has over the last 2 months been full of frost in the top fast freeze section and less so on the second drawer down in the freezer section. The High Temp light is on all the time and the freezer motor is constantly running.
She has emptied the freezer and defrosted it and I have checked the door seals which are fine. When started, it still has the same problem.
Any ideas? Thanks Dale...
Beko Fridge Freezer defrost2011-11-08 18:06:08F.A.o Nestor-Kelebay or anyone else that can assist....
I read Nestor's detailed report on the fridge freezer and it proved it extremely useful. I have a fridge freezer, which is frost free, but is not defrosting and I have had to do manually.
I have checked the defrost timer and it is working. I have turned the shaft and it does cut the compressor out and back in. I have left the fridge running and it also automatically does it itself. Good.
However, I have the back panel off from the freezer compartment and the heaters do not appear to be working on the evap.
How do I discover if it is the heaters or the actual defrost thermostat ? Is there any easy way to test ?
I would appreciate all useful testing procedures, as I have finally been able to remove the back panel and eventually get to the coil / heaters and stat !! What a nightmare, glad to see that Beko thought about the service and maintenance aspect !! Well done them.... so if anyone can help as I have gone so far, I would be very glad...
Look forward to any assistance....

faulty fridge freezer2011-11-16 03:45:50My service fridge freezer is faulty. It auto defrosts its self. I think the switch inside the fridge is faulty when I hit it the fridge comes to life. I`m not sure what this part is called. It controls the temp (numbered 1-5)and has an auto defrost when the switch is turned right round. Is this part the thermostat :? :? and does anybody know a web site I can get a new one...
location of defrost timer in hotpoint ffa912011-11-24 16:36:43Hi all,
My fridge doesn't cool, Freezer goes to maximum -10, but doesn't make ice properly. It goes back into defrost mode and temprature rises. Fan is working, compressor is working fine. Heater and thermostat is working fine, I think its the defrost timer. I want to change that but couldn't find its location.
what is the location of defrost timer in hotpoint ffa91 fridge freezer? Its not in the fridge section or above in the LED panel, have checked though. Then where is it?...

GE fridge evaporator fan change and still not working2011-11-09 16:40:19I have a GE fridge with the freezer on top. I changed the evaporator fan motor because it was not working. I put the new motor in and the fan is still not working. Is there another part that could be bad that makes the fan work? I am so frustrated. I was sure it was the evaporator fan. The fride is going into defrost and I see the defrost heater working and the freezer is working but the fridge is not cold enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the model number, GTS22LB
Beko CDA544W defrost timer location2011-10-29 00:34:16Hey guys, new to the forum so how you all doing?
On this exact model where can I find the defrost timer? It's not down the back beside the compressor - all that's there is the starter relay and compressor. It's not behind the little plate in the freezer and it's not under the plastic bit with the temperature cooler and light in the fridge.
It's really p**sing me off...
Leaking fridge suspected2011-11-18 03:48:29The guy in the flat next to mine is complaining of water coming through his ceiling. When this happened previously it was because the upstairs neighbour had been defrosting her fridge. On this occasion we have been up to have a look at the suspect fridge even though this time she has not been allowing it to defrost. There is no evidence of any accumulation of water at the bottom of the fridge or anywhere else in this area of her flat.
At the moment my hunch is that even though she has not defrosted the fridge manually, it has nevertheless done an auto-defrost and the same result has occurred. Having looked at some of the previous posts I can see that it is worth trying to clean out the drain tube gently with a piece of leccy wire. What I am uncertain of is why has this resulted in a leak no evidence of which is traceable around the fridge area? Do these these tubes always run continuously from the fridge to the condensator tray, or is it possible that there may be some sort of air-gap, so that if the tube becomes blocked the water is forced to run to an alternative point ie the neighbour's ceiling? Or can the tube simply become detached at the condensator end?...
Beko CDA539FW Fridge/Frezeer - Freezer not working2011-10-25 21:18:22Hi All,
I need your help.
I purchased a Beko CDA539FW Fridge/Freezer in 2008 and the appliance has been working fine since recently. We are finding that the freezer is not working efficiently.
The top part of the fridge is fine, but the freezer will not freeze items and as a result we are finding food is defrosting and food is going in the bin.
I have tried the following
1. Turn off and on the fridge/freezer for a period of time.
2. Changed the temperature from 2-5. Now constantly on 5
3. Nothing in the freezer and it is not cold.
Not sure what to do, it a fairly new fridge and it will be a shame to throw away. Currently only the top part is working and it using a lot electricity for just a half working appliance.
Any advice you can give I will be grateful. I will to try anything to get it working.
Fridge Freezer rarely switches off. Thermostat problem?2011-11-02 07:40:49Hi,
my upright Hoover fridge freezer, even though it has auto defrost/frost free, rarely switches off and quite often has chunks of ice on the inside of the freezer section even though I have the fridge set to the very lowest temperature.
I can hear the motor of the fridge freezer running quite often, it rarely seems to be off.
Do you think this might be a faulty thermostat?
If this is a possibility is the thermostat located behind the removeable panel, which has the temperature dial, at the top of the fridge?
servis frostfree fridge freezer - fridge warm2011-11-04 11:45:31My fridge freezer is only a couple of years old, the fridge has just all of a sudden stopped working and is warm but the freezer is working fine. The fridge has 2 drawer compartments at the base of the fridge and these seem to be colder than the rest of the fridge as these are nearer to the freezer part but it definately isn't cold enough!
I've read that I should just defrost it and then it will be fine. Does anyone have any other ideas what could be wrong with it?...
Fridge not cooling, help please2011-11-09 19:17:44Last night I noticed the freezer seemed to be warm and the compressor seemed to be running all the time. There was also ice forming around the vents in the back of the freezer. This all made me think I had auto defrost issue. By the time I got home today my wife had unplugged the fridge. I ran the fridge for around 2 hours and it didn't cool one bit, so I took of the back panel the picture below is what I found. The bottom row of the evaporator was cold and that was it. Any thoughts?Thanks,Ben...
Hotpoint Fridge 69352011-11-02 17:11:35My Hotpoint Integrated fridge(Model 6935) of some 17 years vintage stedfastly refuses to drop below 10 degres centigrade. The compressor never stops presumably because it doesn't get cool enough - it doesn't switch off no matter where the control is turned to except when the control knob turns the compressor off altogether at lowest number. Door seals appears good all round and not broken or sagging anyhere. - tried with a piece of [aper and it grips it moderately well). Rear of fridge is constantly icing up - presumably due to auto defrost not working. Is it fit only for that great scrapyard in the sky....
Beko Fridge Freezer2011-10-29 01:34:30We recently purcased second hand a large stainless steel Beko fridge freezer. The fridge part is fine but the freezer seems not to work, the top shelf seems fine but the lower compartments have defrosted. Problem seems to be that the fan is not working. It stands outside in a garage.
and is very cold at the moment, we are wondering if this is anything to do
with the problem as it was working earlier in the week....
Beko CDA539FB2 Not Working2012-12-01 16:21:00Hello,
I have a Beko DA539FB2 fridge/freezer that up until this morning, was working perfectly.
This morning, I opened the fridge door and the light came on as normal, but then went off (before closing the door). I tried closing the door and then opening again and the light didn't come on again and there was no noise coming from the fridge.
I switched the fridge/freezer off at the wall and switched it back on. After a few seconds I could hear the unit working but only for a few more seconds and then it cuts out and there is only silence. I have tried this a few times, but nothing has changed.
I have looked in the manual but it only recommends getting someone in to see it. Please can someone help?
Liebherr Lader Fridge - not keeping cold2011-10-30 06:35:28Hi folks - I'd welcome a bit of advice on my 23-year old fridge.
Up to the middle of last week (say 27th Oct), the fridge seemed to be working perfectly. Yesterday, we noticed some water puddling under the fridge and that the fridge thermometer was at 12°C. Also, the back plate of the fridge on the inside was wet.
The thermostat control ranges from 0-7 and is normally set on 1.
Turning the thermostat control up to 5 got the temperature down to about 6°C - normally if it gets knocked onto 2 we get frozen salad stuff in the bottom!
Anyway, this morning I have emptied the fridge and taken it out of its cupboard to check it.
The drain hole for the auto-defrost was blocked - so I've cleaned that out. I've also checked the rear radiator and this is quite warm to the touch at the top and I can hear the motor/compressor running.
Currently the fridge was at 10°C at 9:20am
So is the problem likely to be caused by ...
1) simply a blocked drain hole
2) a dodgy thermostat
3) a lack of refrigerant in the cooling system
I'd welcome any thoughts/ideas. Being 23 years old (and working fine up to Wednesday) is it worth having anything done - eg regassing if that is needed?
New A+ rated fridges seem to be in the region of £300-350
